Owners Stuart and Tracey didn’t have to look far to find this grandly-sized, park-side family home just across the road from the rear entrance to Stanley Point School in Devonport, North Shore.
“We always coveted this house when we owned the somewhat smaller character home which sits between it and the road,” Stuart says.
“This house is just beautiful, with a bit more scale to it and a fantastic location elevated above and facing the park. Its sense of seclusion, down a driveway on large grounds looking out at lots of greenery, means you can almost imagine you’re in the countryside.”
They expressed their interest and eventually bought number 25 off-market, moving in here with their two young daughters in 2018. “No moving truck required,” says Stuart.

Four years on, 25 Glen Road in Stanley Point, North Shore, is on the market to be sold at auction on December 15. The seven-bedroom, five-bathroom home has a June 2021 RV of $3.3 million and, according to OneRoof data, last sold in 2018 for $2.8m.
The home sits on 971sqm of land, evolved from a 1920s villa, and surprises first-time visitors. It presents as single level on first approach but is a three-level, 360sqm residence, harbouring a self-contained lower-level apartment.
“When people first come down the driveway, they’d don’t initially understand its scale and what a stunning outlook it has over Stanley Bay Park and the greenery beyond,” Stuart says.
The couple renovated comprehensively, including thorough insulation, ducted heat pumps and re-glazing with e-glass. They re-did the kitchen, five bathrooms, laundry, and installed new carpet and LED lighting. Now character features such as native timber floors, a grand staircase and sash windows meld with modern amenity.
“New owners can move in with nothing to do to it.”
Off-street parking accompanies the double garage with big attic space. You can enter via the upper level or down and around a side veranda to the mid-level.
Here, a veranda extending into a sunny outdoor entertaining deck flows off the family room, living room and entertainers’ kitchen-dining with inviting window seat. Cheltenham Road Interior Design Collective helped conceive the kitchen.
The distinctive steamed timber lampshade above the dining table is one of four in the house the couple bought from artisanal producer Faye Williams Lamps. As well as a bedroom, bathroom, powder room and laundry this level features the sweeping original staircase ascending to the upper level.
Here, four bedrooms including the ensuited master with walk-in wardrobe, all open to verandas front and back and accompany an additional bathroom. The lower level apartment with kitchen-living-dining area, two ensuited bedrooms, a laundry and cellar could suit extended family, a nanny or income generation.
Landscaped gardens include a side deck area and generous level lawn with a gate into Stanley Bay Park.
“Sometimes we’ll sink into a bean bag with a drink in the park and we belong to the local tennis club,” Stuart says. “This is such a family friendly area with lots of children and it’s just a 12-minute ferry ride to the city.”
The family of four had the apartment renovated first, living in it while the balance was done. This made them realise they’d be content with a more modestly sized home, especially with less international visitors staying than originally anticipated.
Listing agent Lynda Betts, of Bayleys Devonport, says: “We rarely get coming to market large family homes, renovated to such a high standard, overlooking the park and next to Stanley Bay School – this one incorporating a self-contained apartment.”
