Colliers New Zealand Executive Chairman Mark Synnott received the Lifetime Achievement Award at the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors New Zealand Awards 2023 in Auckland last week.

Synnott, who spent nearly 29 years as the CEO of Colliers New Zealand before moving to his new role in May, was acknowledged for his extensive contribution to the property industry.

He was presented with the award by National Director of Strategic Advisory at Colliers Alan McMahon, who received the same accolade in 2018.

With more than three decades of experience in property, Synnott has overseen the extensive growth of Colliers who now have a presence in all major centres across New Zealand in multiple service lines and have proven themselves as clear market leaders in real estate.

Synnott says it is an honour to be recognised by the RICS.

"I am grateful for the acknowledgement from RICS, and I thank them for this prestigious award," Synnott says.

"I remain incredibly determined to continue to focus on the growth of Colliers and am proud of the achievements of the organisation during the past three decades.

"Winning an award like this isn't possible without having a fantastic team around me and I am thankful to have been supported by so many tremendous colleagues and my family throughout the years."

Synnott's award capped a memorable evening for Colliers who also received Real Estate Agency Team of the Year and Valuation Team of the Year honours.

The Colliers Auckland Office Leasing team claimed the Real Estate Agency Team of the Year crown following an outstanding year punctuated by high-profile deals for Beca in Wynyard Quarter, KiwiRail in Ellerslie, and Spark and FNZ who will be tenants in Fifty Albert when it is completed.

Sam Gallaugher, Director of Office Leasing at Colliers, says he is proud to lead a team of hard-working Brokers and support staff.

"It has been an incredible period in the office market with companies shifting the way they think about work, and we have been determined to provide our clients with the best possible advice so they can make proactive and informed decisions," Gallaugher says.

"It is hugely gratifying for the team to receive this award and is testament to the work we put in on a daily basis."

Kane Sweetman, National Director of Valuation at Colliers, says their team's depth of knowledge and experience is what helps set them apart and their awards submission focused on valuations of landmark Auckland assets, including Britomart and Ponsonby Central.

"I am thrilled for our team members and really proud that we have received this award," Sweetman says.

"We have an outstanding group of people that comprise our team and it is a pleasure to work alongside such a skilled group of professionals."
