“Wow” say courier drivers, “wow” say Uber drivers and “wow” say visiting friends – all stunned by the magical absolute waterfront view from Naomi and Kerry’s Whenuapai property.

“That’s exactly what we thought too, when we first drove down the driveway and saw the view,” says Naomi.

“We were living in Greenhithe at the time and wanted bigger garaging, a smaller section and a smaller house. We ended up with bigger garaging, a larger section and a larger house because of that view and we still love it here 10 years later.

“The minute you walk through the front door you look straight through the dining area to the sea and rural views across the Upper Waitemata Harbour. It’s like having your piece of art that changes every day. We never draw our curtains.”

Naomi says: “The house is pretty spectacular looking because it’s quite different and is big.”

The foyer looks through a dining area to a balcony admiring the water, near an additional living area under a curved ceiling of island kauri.

This level has multiple living areas and is largely open-plan apart from its laundry and powder room; defined into sea-facing spaces surrounding the walls of a sea-facing central kitchen.

An expansive family room-lounge, part under another curved kauri ceiling and partly roofed in glass, stretches through the home from the front balcony to a rear patio. This houses a spa pool in a Japanese-style shoji enclosure.

The couple’s updates to the home include fully renovating their ensuite, which now incorporates a walk-through double shower, free-standing bath and separate powder room, with a walk-in wardrobe and a balcony.

A long driveway reaches a separate triple garage, before passing between the home and studio. It culminates in a double garage under the home, you can winch your boat down a private jetty into the sea. The residence is constructed of concrete blocks inside and out with Titan Board and abundant glass.

Naomi can see Kerry catch fish out on a deep water mooring then she starts making batter in the central kitchen. Naomi understands musical notes in the staircase balustrading up to the fourth-floor master suite reference Pink Floyd’s song Another brick in the wall.

The couple are selling as they’re spending increasing time at their holiday home.

Agents Terry and Janet Jones, of NZ Sotheby’s International Realty, say: “This is a unique property given its waterfront location, architectural design and land size, in the top street in Whenuapai.”
