A “supremely located” large greenfield site tagged for light industry has gone up for sale in an area city planners are targeting for massive growth in Auckland’s burgeoning northwest.
The more than 3.5-hectare site on Trig Road, Whenuapai, overlooks the NorthWest Shopping Centre, Costco’s new $100 million-plus warehouse store and fuel station, and the Westgate business precinct.
It is close to current and future motorway access points at the junction of state highways 16 and 18.
Currently zoned Future Urban, the high-profile, elevated site is earmarked by Auckland Council for rezoning for light industry with an indicative timing of 2028 to 2032.

Whenuapai has been identified by council planners as a key hub to support the city’s growth challenges.
In recent years, the council has bought up land along the northwestern boundary of the Trig Road site designated for stormwater management.
The approximately 3.52-hectare freehold site at 78 Trig Road, Whenuapai, Auckland, is being marketed for sale by Wesley Gerber, Matt Clifford and Beterly Pan of Bayleys Northwest.
On the market for the first time in 50 years, the property will be sold by way of a tender closing on Wednesday 8 March, unless it is sold earlier.
Gerber said future designation as part of the Business – Light Industry zone under Auckland’s unitary plan would open the way for a variety of activities such as manufacturing, production, logistics, storage, transport and distribution.
In the interim, two homes on the site could provide a new owner with income while they work through future plans.
A planned motorway flyover around 100 metres away would connect the Trig Road site with the bustling precinct directly across State Highway 16 which is home to big-brand occupiers such as Costco, Harvey Norman, Mitre 10 Mega, Briscoes and Freedom Furniture.
“Supremely located near the junction of the Northwestern and Upper Harbour motorways, the Trig Road site offers exceptional connectivity to the area’s flourishing amenities, to the Northwest, Westgate and Hobsonville metropolitan centres, and across the Auckland region,” Gerber said.
Clifford said Whenuapai bordered a significant built-up urban area alongside considerable private and public investment into infrastructure.
Further investment and infrastructure upgrades were planned over the next two decades.
“Significant private plan changes and fast-track consents have been approved on neighbouring properties, validating Whenuapai and 78 Trig Road as an astute long-term property acquisition,” said Clifford.
Access for future industrial logistics at the Trig Road site would be supported by planned roading improvements.
The property ran alongside SH16 with a designated roading overpass and south-facing on and off ramps planned, Clifford said.
Pan said Northside Drive East and Trig Road were planned to be redeveloped from predominantly rural roads to main arterial roads supporting the planned industrial-zoned land and further improving connections to state highways.
“The overpass will see Northside Drive East running along the site’s 170-metre-wide front boundary connecting Northside Drive at Westgate directly through to State Highway 18.
“This has been modelled to accommodate more than 26,000 vehicle movements a day and has been indicated for funding for construction through Auckland’s Regional Land Transport Plan,” said Pan.
