A West Auckland home that has featured in the hit Kiwi detective show The Brokenwood Mysteries not once, but twice is looking for a buyer with more than $5 million to spend.

A sale at that price would make the lifestyle block at 121 Access Road one of the most expensive homes in the rural suburb of Kumeu.
Bayleys agent Angela Rudling told OneRoof the property had attracted a lot of interest, with many potential buyers falling in love with the house and its location.
“It's a unique property for Kumeu. It’s one of the best properties that I’ve seen, with all its facilities. It’s like a private haven. It’s a wonderful property but it needs someone of substance who is needing what’s there - there’s a lot there.”
However, the fact that such a home was in Kumeu had thrown some people. “I think Kumeu is the kind of area where you don’t have to expect to spend $5 million-plus,” she said.
The “gorgeous” main house was an Italian-style villa with a pool and outdoor room. There was a sprawling barn with living accommodation – that’s where Brokenwood was filmed – plus a standalone cottage which would be great for Airbnb.
There was also a “massive” shed for the storage of cars or other toys.
Rudling said the property was perfect for extended family or for someone running a business from home, and while the price indication might seem high for Kumeu, not many properties had all that this one offered.

“It’s just got everything. It’s just jam-packed with fabulous features but we’re still looking for the person who wants to live in that location,” she said.
A nice home in Kumeu was more around the $2m mark but that bought very little or no land. “This is a little bit standout, this is a little bit of its own. This has definitely got the X-Factor. Oh my goodness, from the minute I drove in that driveway I thought, ‘What a shame I didn’t see this property years ago’.
“It’s one of the most desirable family-orientated properties, because what it’s got suits an entire family, multi-generational.”
When OneRoof featured 121 Access Road in November, the owner said his family had bought the property in 2015.
They added the large inground mineral swimming pool and the big, freestanding shed from where the owner ran a concreting business and then kept collectible cars.
“One of our granddaughters got married here with 65 guests in the barn, which is a pretty special place. Brokenwood Mysteries has been filmed here twice. They hired the barn off us as a location for an episode that’s already screened, although I’ve got no idea who got murdered that time.”
The property has a wine cellar and different wings, and there is a pizza oven outside in the entertaining area.
The separate cottage was featured in House & Garden magazine, and the shed has a mezzanine floor and a four-ton double post electric hoist, and there’s a 14KVA generator.
The property also has a council-certified bore and a selection of fruit trees, including an avocado tree which crops about 300 fruit a year.
