David and Carolyn’s search for the perfect family home took a bit of time – and a lot of open homes.
“We viewed countless houses – so many it’s embarrassing to number it,” recalls David.
“Our daughter who’s now in her mid-30s says she’s still traumatised by the memory of sitting outside yet another property.”
Finally, they stumbled across a home that suited them and their three young children to a tee.

Over the last 30 years, David and Carolyn have lovingly tweaked and improved the property, including reconfiguring the kitchen, extending the master bedroom, and improving the street appeal.
“When we first moved in, there was no front fence, and the lawn was overgrown. We sourced some old bricks from a building that was being demolished on Tweed Street in the city and used them to build a fence and edging around the garden.”
Inside, daily living is easy, particularly for a young family.
“You can be sitting in one room dining with friends while the kids are eating pizza and watching a movie in another living area – the size of the house and flow of the rooms makes it so easy to keep an eye on everything.”
The space makes it ideal for all sorts of family events too.
“We usually host a large family Christmas every year and having multiple areas where you can migrate back and forth just makes everything so easy. Over the years we’ve had multiple kids’ birthdays, teenagers’ parties, we even had our daughter’s engagement party here.”
