It’s New Zealand’s most loved group of Mexican restaurants, serving over 10,000 customers every week and over three million (or thereabouts) margaritas every year.

Nick Giles, head of hospitality at Link Business Broking, is marketing two of the Mexico franchise restaurants, both in Auckland.

“These are fun businesses, and the vibrant decor of each individually styled restaurant complements the lively atmosphere of the dining experience. Each restaurant has a busy bar, and these are famous for their long list of tequila, mezcal, Mexican beers, sangria and their own brand of margaritas.”

Mexico is an immersive dining experience, inspired by the streets of its namesake nation with a menu that delivers layers of street food-inspired flavours using fresh, free-range ingredients. Bustling with food-market vibes, these restaurants offer informal dining and a lively atmosphere.

It's a well-established brand with over 10 years under its belt, and there are 10 restaurants throughout the country. The brand is backed by a large franchise system that has been winning awards for over 20 years.

Giles says the two stores available represent “a rare opportunity with fabulous potential long-term rewards.”

Mexico at Sylvia Park opened its doors in 2017 and has been a mainstay of the The Lane dining precinct ever since. This is a high-profile store, enjoying weekly sales of around $35,000. It is a fully managed operation and a new owner-operator has the opportunity to drive sales forward and reap the rewards of its impressive location.

Sylvia Park is one of the country’s largest shopping centres with 50 per cent of Aucklanders living within a 20-minute drive. It boasts over 200 stores and has parking for over 5000 cars.

“You will simply not believe the price at which you can secure this opportunity,” Giles says. “For less than the price of a very modest cafe, you can own one of the most fun hospitality businesses around.”

The second opportunity is in Silverdale, a northern suburb that has seen phenomenal growth over the last 10 years with an influx of new housing developments and a growth in retail.

Mexico Silverdale enjoys a fabulous set-up in the Silverdale Centre with excellent visitor numbers and heaps of parking. The restaurant is a standalone structure at one end of the centre.

The restaurant enjoys strong weekly sales and is also offered at a low entrance price.

Giles says, “These are both restaurants that enjoy superb locations but could perform even better under franchise operators with the drive, personality and determination to succeed. Both of the businesses have been run under management and it is time for hungry new owners to take the reins.

“Yes, we could have sought a more robust price. However the prices have been set to open up the doors to a wider group of talented potential new owners and that’s more important for the brand.”

Giles says while the price will attract many inquiries, this is not the only reason to buy one of the stores.

“Hard work is needed and an understanding that these are large, bustling hospitality environments that need a strong hand on the tiller, and you will need cashflow behind you to ensure success.

“You may not have huge hospitality experience, but you are someone that thrives under challenges and is tantalised by the genuinely huge opportunity before you. You have the opportunity with one of these stores to potentially make huge capital gain. You will have a solid business background and be someone that understands that hospitality is a customer-facing industry.”

He points out that the new owner(s) don’t need to know everything - “There is an award-winning franchise support system behind you with all the training and support you will need.”
