There’s no denying Warren Angus knows a good kitchen when he sees one. When he walked into a house for sale in Drury when looking for a family home and saw the kitchen, he simply said: “I’ll take it.”
Angus is a keen cook and loves big kitchens where friends can all gather during parties, and this one fits the bill.
It’s a curved space with a hexagonal marble bench sitting within a bay window, curving around a semi-circular marble island. The drawers, cupboard spaces and pantry are exceptional, and there’s a double oven, induction cooktop and the full range of modern kitchen facilities.
It wasn’t quite this beautiful when he bought it almost 10 years ago. “The house was all green, including the carpet, but it had good bones and I knew it would be possible to build on the guest wing we had planned. So it was all ripped back to bare bones and now the interior is totally new,” Angus says.

69 Harry Dreadon Road in Drury, Papakura, is on the market for sale by auction on April 29. It has a 2021 RV of $2.1 million and, according to OneRoof data, it last changed hands in 2014 for $1.093m.
The house emulates the stately vintage homes of Remuera and Epsom. Its brick cladding, weatherboard detailing and concrete tiled roof meet timeless architecture with unparalleled attention to quality.
Nestled into the rolling hills of Drury it has broad views across the rural landscape. It’s big – 432sqm on 10,965sqm of land – which was another attraction alongside the 2.7-metre stud which increases the feeling of space.
The heart of the home is the comfortable open-plan living area. The kitchen flows easily into a sitting area from one side, and to a dining room and family room on the other side, both of which open to a large deck.
There are six bedrooms, including a private, two-bedroom guest wing, perfect for hosting guests or as a separate living area. The master is on the second level and is one of Angus’ favourite spaces because it’s so big, with an ensuite of twin vanities and a huge walk-in shower.
“It’s a clever plan because there are three bedrooms upstairs, which is great for young kids.”
All of this is contained behind electric gates and includes a four-car garage with internal access, formal gardens and native bush. It’s close to the amenities of Drury, with easy access to the motorway interchange or for commuting by train.
“Drury is the entry point to Hamilton, so finding a block like this here in the future will be unheard of,” says listing agent Lynn Lockhart, of Ray White.
“Getting these good, private lifestyle properties will be rare. This one is a beautiful country house with modern living options on a one-hectare block within 30 minutes of the CBD.”
And in answer to the question ‘what more could you want?’, Angus says: “something bigger and on one level – that’s predominantly it. And we’ll go all out and have a man-kitchen and an outdoor kitchen.”
