Current owners Samantha and Hamish bought their luxury Drury property five years ago, and she says it’s without a doubt the best house they’ve ever lived in.

“The quality is so amazing – it was built for an Air New Zealand pilot who had an eye for detail and was very fastidious,” she says.

Designed by Glasgow Design Architectural and set on a picturesque, elevated 7637sqm rural block with sensational views across the countryside towards Auckland, 49 Harry Dreadon Road in Drury, Papakura, features 572sqm of single level living, including a stand-alone two-bedroom guest house.

According to OneRoof data, the property has a 2021 CV of $2.9 million and is for sale by negotiation.

Samantha has been operating the guest house – Quail Lodge – as award-winning, high-end accommodation, achieving success especially with the post-pandemic return of overseas visitors, who leave consistently glowing reviews.

“They love it here and we love having them,” she says.

Guests’ breakfasts are cooked in her huge kitchen which enjoys two Gaggenau ovens and a flush-mounted Miele induction hob – plus a spacious scullery. “We often ask them to join us for dinner too because we simply enjoy their company,” Samantha says.

An extensive dining and living space as well as the formal lounge flow relaxedly from the kitchen, allowing easy access to both covered and open outdoor living with a range of areas for catching the sun, along with a spectacular fenced infinity pool, complete with changing room.

Back inside, three generous bedrooms enjoy use of a luxury family bathroom, while the master suite is especially well-appointed with duo walk-in wardrobes and a fully tiled double-vanity ensuite plus its own private patio.

Other notable details include solar power via roof panels, ducted air-conditioning – which Samantha says she could never live without now, and a separate laundry, under-house storage, along with a double garage with internal access and a double carport in addition.

“The location was perfect for us with our factory just seven minutes down the road and, of course, there’s very easy access to the motorway.

“I’d describe it as being the ‘gateway to the south’ but I wouldn’t necessarily recommend doing what one of our guests did – taking in Waitomo, Rotorua and Hobbiton all in a single day!,” she says.

Samantha says that her mother will definitely miss the sunset shots she receives on a regular basis. “It’s always really spectacular and Hamish and I find ourselves taking photos almost every afternoon.”

She describes herself as “project driven” and has a new challenge in her sights – hence the sale of the property. “Plus, my son has left home, and it really is a bit too large for just Hamish and me.”

Listing agent Scott McElhinney, of Barfoot & Thompson’s Lifestyle Rural Sales in Pukekohe, says there is always a group of “A-grade” buyers keeping an eye out for properties of this calibre.

“It’s a five-star home – absolutely stunning throughout, and a new owner could certainly capitalise on Samantha’s hard work in getting Quail Lodge recognised internationally, but it’s also perfect for a multi-generational living situation and offers loads of room for a young family,” McElhinney says.

He says that buyers can simply move into 49 Harry Dreadon Road – saving themselves the time and effort involved in creating such a dream property from scratch.
