Taken by an extraordinary setting in Omaha’s southern end, the current owner of 43 Taumata Road was given a remarkably easy choice between an unobstructed, north-facing property in Omaha or battling the ferry crowds on Waiheke Island.
“We were incredibly drawn to this site; it was easily the best of three available in the cove in the premier stage one release at South Omaha,” says the owner.
“Because it’s slightly forward of the section to its east, opening up to incredible views of the cove, the rocks and the headland protecting Pink Beach. We toyed with Waiheke but didn’t like the restrictions of a ferry timetable.”
43 Taumata Road in Omaha, Rodney, has a 2021 RV of $7.2 million, and is for sale by a set sale date closing February 16. It has four bedrooms, four bathrooms and a double garage. According to OneRoof data, the property last changed hands in 2001 when it sold for $585,000.

The design of the home was undertaken by architect Lance Herbst, who conceived a two-storey menage of glass, cedar and concrete on a perfectly flat site, producing a striking form on the quiet end of Omaha’s beachfront.
Intent on encompassing immediate and distant views, Herbst incorporated liberal amounts of glass fronting a solid concrete base, guarded by movable cedar screens to afford privacy and an effortlessly modern detail at once.
Herbst succeeded not only in what he set about doing but has achieved a timeless design that could have easily been conceived yesterday.
“The design has stood the test of time, there is hardly a thing I would change if starting again,” the owner says.
“The home and its layout nestles into the site beautifully and the views enhanced to a maximum. We like it as it has a real beach house feel, it’s not just another Remuera mansion transplanted into Omaha.”
The kitchen and dining area is lightly separated from the living space by lean pillars, providing flow and gentle disconnection. The kitchen, as with every part of the home, has been constructed with the best of materials. The Poggenpohl designed space is made from Canadian maple contrasting with the home’s heated Tasmanian oak and Italian porcelain tile flooring throughout.
Equally design-led, its four bathrooms are decorated with Bisazza mosaic accents, premium fittings and timber cabinetry.
The home encompasses four bedrooms, two living areas and multiple outdoor living spaces the owner describes as outdoor rooms, offering endless opportunity for relaxing, entertaining and taking in the view.
“It answered all of our questions around privacy, shade from the sun and good ventilation, and has unbeatable ground floor views.”
Enjoying an unhindered outlook from almost every point in the home, together with the wide avenues between neighbours, the site has proved to be just as good, if not better, than the owner first imagined.
Ray White agent Ross Hawkins is marketing the property alongside Heather Walton, he highlights, “With recent sales on Waiheke Island of front-row beach houses on residential sites in places such as Oneroa having now surpassed the $10m barrier, we expect Omaha to do the same in premium positions such as beachfront in the cove area.”
