Sam Hyde-Smith has moved into a brokerage role in the Colliers Investment Sales team in Auckland, specialising in the eastern suburbs.

Hyde-Smith joined the business as a Team Assistant in 2023 where he gained a comprehensive understanding of the commercial property sector under the guidance of the market-leading Investment Sales experts at Colliers.

Previously a New Zealand middle-distance runner, he won three national age-group titles and was a member of the High Performance Sport New Zealand programme.

His passion for elite sport led him to pursue a career in property where he noticed parallels, including the importance of discipline, perseverance, and having a relentless drive to succeed.

“I became passionate about property when I saw it provided an outlet for me to live the values that helped me in my running career, such as resilience, dedication, and having a strong work ethic,” Hyde-Smith says.

“When I joined the Investment Sales team at Colliers it quickly became clear their success stemmed from these attributes and I knew straight away that it was the right fit for me.”

Hyde-Smith will work alongside experienced property professional Logan Roach who has extensive knowledge of the East Auckland market.

David Burley, Auckland Director of Investment Sales at Colliers, says Hyde-Smith is well positioned to succeed in brokerage after working in his Team Assistant role.

“Sam has proven to be an important asset since joining the Investment Sales team and his relentless work ethic, analytical skills, and proactive mindset will put him in good stead to deliver exceptional results for our clients,” Burley says.

“He joined the team during a challenging period for commercial property in New Zealand, which instilled in him the patience and perseverance required to broker transactions under tough economic conditions.

“Sam enters brokerage on the precipice of the next growth cycle and brings a meticulous approach to property where he will leave no stone left unturned.”

The Auckland Investment Sales team has experienced an uptick in enquiries to start the year and recent transactions indicate promising signs for the market as it continues to recover following a period of high interest rates and challenging economic factors.

Roach and Burley recently brokered the sale of 99B Tamaki Drive in Mission Bay, a premium retail asset in one of Auckland’s most sought-after locations. It was one of very few commercial transactions along Tamaki Drive in recent years.

“Investors are back in the market looking for opportunities and the recent sale of 99B Tamaki Drive shows this buyer group is willing to take action to secure quality assets,” Burley says.

“Declining interest rates and the economy returning to growth should provide a solid foundation for an uptick in transaction activity later this year, particularly given the increased volume of stock coming to the market.”
