When the current owners laid eyes on 37 Seaview Road in Remuera, Auckland City, it was love at first sight.

“We drove down the driveway and just thought, ‘Wow’. We loved it so much, we signed the contract before it was listed.” That was in 2014. They bought the property for $4.1 million, and thoughtfully and painstakingly renovated, restored, and added to the home.

37 Seaview Road is now on the market with a set sale date, closing July 21, and has a 2021 ratings valuation of $8.1m.

Built in 1919, this stately Edwardian property was one of the first homes to be built in the area.

“When we moved in, the home felt quite disjointed. We took our time to get to know the property before we made any decisions about how we could improve the flow. Now the whole house fits together,” the owners say.

Every building decision has remained sympathetic to the origins of the house.

“We replicated the leadlight windows where we could, all the new skirting boards, architraves, scotia, and doors match the old ones, even the doorknobs and hinges match. It was important that any work we did tied back to the home’s roots.”

The grand kitchen complete with five-metre-long Carrarra marble island effortlessly transitions between family living by day and entertaining by night.

Multiple living spaces are arranged around enormous windows and doors that look across Hobson Bay and out to Rangitoto Island. Huge, sun-trapped decks plus the heated pool and spa create a huge amount of outdoor entertainment space, while louvres mean you can sit out there and enjoy the view rain or shine.

Upstairs, the master wing offers an escape from the rest of the house thanks to his-and-her wardrobes, an expansive ensuite including bath, and postcard views. Four more bedrooms offer plenty of room for the whole family. With so much space, versatility is the name of the game here.

“The options are endless, really. You could have a home office upstairs with an awe-inspiring view. You could have a kids’ playroom where you could keep the mess contained but still have plenty of room for visitors to stay,” the owners say.

“The flat downstairs would be perfect for an au pair or extended family. This home really is built for everyone.”

Ray White agent Harry Champtaloup says 37 Seaview Road needs to be seen to be believed.

“Set on 1603sqm, this home perfectly combines luxurious modern living with the old-school charm of a character home. Fantastic entertaining, double Grammar zone, high security, parking for all the toys, and one of the best views in Auckland – this home has it all,” he says.

For the current owners, the decision to move on has been tough.

“I’m talking to you while I’m sitting in the sun looking out towards Rangitoto, and even now I’m questioning why we’re selling,” the owners say.

“We adore this home, and everything we’ve done to it we’ve done for ourselves. But we’re also really looking forward to travelling more and freeing up our time, so it’s a bittersweet move.”
