The Home Block consists of the fruit shop, packhouse, cool store, and a four-bedroom character villa that sits in an elevated position at the rear of the site and serves as the owner’s accommodation, while the River Block has a 69sq m portable house used for staff accommodation.

Across the property there is more than 9,300 trees covering approximately 12.6ha consisting of apricots, cherries, peaches, nectarines, and plums. Apricots make up approximately 70 per cent of Fairview Orchard’s production and are particularly popular among local suppliers.

Jered Tate and partner Jodi Gillam-Taylor own the property, having purchased it in late 2017.

But with a range of growing business interests, including a burgeoning distilling operation that includes making schnapps, the time is right for them to sell.

Tate says the property will be appealing to people with an interest in the horticulture sector.

“Our fruit has proven incredibly popular with the domestic market, and we have a mix of summer fruit with a combination of mature trees and new plantings. There’s also a reliable water supply, and irrigation and frost fighting infrastructure,” Tate says.

“The retail store, which sells our fruit directly to customers, also offers coffee, ice cream, and honey among other treats, and has been very busy through a mix of local shoppers and visitors to the area.”

Colliers Rural Sales Advisors Ruth Hodges and Greta Mason have been exclusively appointed to market the property for sale with the deadline for offers closing at 4pm on Wednesday 15 February, unless sold prior.

Roxburgh is a town within the Teviot Valley in Central Otago and has a vibrant community. Famous for Jimmy’s Pies and bountiful fruit and vegetables, tourism is also flourishing, especially due to the Roxburgh Gorge and Clutha Gold trails.

There’s a collection of eateries and New Zealand’s longest running cinema in Roxburgh, which has been in operation since 1897.

Alexandra, which provides a full range of services, is only 38km away.

The orchard operation is well established having grown fruit for more than 100 years and has a reputation for high-quality produce, selling to local and export markets as well as direct to consumers.

The expansive retail store is a feature of the Home Block and there’s an external cool store measuring 40sq m. There is also an old stone packhouse with an internal cool store and numerous outbuildings, including an implement shed, lean-to, garage, and two older huts near the main dwelling.

Hodges, Director of Colliers Rural in Queenstown, says the property presents buyers with a range of options.

“With a renowned business in place, the property will generate significant interest in the market as there’s scope to explore various opportunities given there’s multiple titles available,” Hodges says.

“The existing infrastructure at the property coupled with the large-scale landholding and a thriving business makes for an enticing investment.”

Mason, Rural Sales Advisor at Colliers Queenstown, says Central Otago is characterised by a climate that offers the lowest rainfall in New Zealand regardless of season, while providing exciting outdoor activities that contribute to an attractive lifestyle.

“Roxburgh boasts two of New Zealand’s Great Rides – the Roxburgh Gorge and Clutha Gold trails – with walking and back country mountain biking trails close by,” Mason says.

“The Roxburgh Gorge Trail stretches between Alexandra and the Roxburgh Dam, alongside the mighty Clutha River, past eroded bluffs, and old gold workings. The Clutha Gold Trail is 73km long and passes through Roxburgh, Millers Flat, Beaumont, and Lawrence.

“Lake Roxburgh also offers an outstanding location for fishing, boating, and water sports, while Perkins Pond is open from November until Easter for water skiing and wakeboarding.”
