Colliers is bolstering the capacity of its West Auckland office.

The office was established in 2016 to provide a dedicated presence and expert service to the market in one of the city’s major growth nodes.

It has transacted multiple standout deals in recent years, including data centres, Royal Heights Shopping Centre, large industrial sites at the Spedding Road development, and considerable amounts of development land.

As the West Auckland market continues to expand and overlap with the North Shore, some property figures have begun to refer to this area as one market, the NorthWest.

General Manager Nelson Raines leads the Colliers West Auckland office, which includes experienced Brokers Caroline Cornish, James Appleby, and Benson Tarm who all have intricate knowledge of the local market, and Sam Mackarell who moved into a brokerage role earlier this year.

To build on those capabilities, Colliers’ North Shore-based Directors Matt Prentice and Shoneet Chand have been given an expanded brief as the pair will collaborate closely with West Auckland’s existing experts, offering dedicated asset class specialisation to drive better results for clients.

Raines, who joined Colliers last year, says since the inception of the Auckland Unitary Plan there has been considerable development in West Auckland that has been underpinned by strong population growth.

“Owners, developers, and landlords often view the NorthWest as one market so we are really excited about the opportunity to deliver successful outcomes for our clients, while utilising the experience of Matt and Shoneet,” Raines says.

Meanwhile, experienced professional Jimmy O’Brien leads the Colliers North Shore team, which has been named Small Commercial & Industrial Office of the Year in five of the past six years at the Real Estate Institute of New Zealand (REINZ) Awards for Excellence.

Prentice and Chand have a proven track record and they jointly claimed the Auckland Top Revenue gong at the Colliers awards night for 2023.

Last year they won the Overall Commercial & Industrial Salesperson of the Year award, an award for salespeople that work in a partnership, at the REINZ awards.

The pair have an extensive history of completing deals in West Auckland and have brokered hundreds of millions of dollars of transactions, including the recent sales of 88 Patiki Road in Avondale, 126 Central Park Drive in Henderson, and a major land deal on Hobsonville Road in Hobsonville.

Prentice says given there is a lack of industrial development land on the North Shore, the West Auckland market has been a natural progression for occupiers and developers to consider.

“Occupiers are still seeking space in the area and high-quality assets continue to draw interest among buyers, which are contributing to low vacancy rates,” Prentice says.

Chand says the improved infrastructure of West Auckland and connectivity through major transport projects across the past decade have boosted its appeal.

“There is still extensive growth potential in the wider West Auckland area and the commercial market is thriving. The addition of high-profile retailers such as Costco show the future for the West is bright.”

Gareth Fraser, CEO of Colliers New Zealand, says giving Prentice and Chand a wider remit made sense given the proximity of the respective markets.

“Matt and Shoneet are two of our top-performing Brokers and have set themselves apart as true market leaders on the North Shore and across the broader Auckland area,” Fraser says.

“Widening their roles will create an excellent synergy between our capabilities in the North and West Auckland markets meaning we can further accelerate the success of our clients.”
