With working from home increasingly common and a new motorway extension set to cut driving time to and from Auckland, Mahurangi is enjoying a surge in popularity and 8 Kotare Place epitomises luxury rural living, just minutes from Matakana.

No expense has been spared in creating a top-quality executive home on 7551sqm with sweeping views of Sandspit Harbour and surrounding countryside towards Kauwau Bay.

Crisp, cool and contemporary, the home offers easy flow and oversized spaces.

On the ground floor a double tandem garage can accommodate four vehicles or a boat, while the bathroom is handy for swimmers returning from the pool or spa pool – which are set outside in a sun-drenched partly covered paved area.

A separate laundry and lots of storage make up the rest of this level.

Owners Craig and Cherie say that they embarked on a major renovation just as Covid hit in 2020 and what was supposed to take just a few months ended up taking far more time, but the outcome is spectacular, and the couple are thrilled with it.

“Everything we’ve done is centred around the views,” says Craig. “You can sit and watch the harbour for hours and there’s always something happening down there.”

Glass balustrades enable unobstructed vistas. The kitchen is large and very well equipped with lots of bench and cupboard space – friends and family can mingle happily while food is being prepared.

Open-plan living areas are generous and four bedrooms, including the master, has its own elegant Italian bathroom. The decor throughout is bright and breezy.

“One of the things we’ve loved most during our 12 years here is the friendly community around us. A couple of times a year we all get together for neighbourhood drinks,” says Cherie, adding that there are no streetlights, so the nights are dark and silent.

“The only noise problems we have are when there are too many tuis flying around.”

The native bush is protected, and the property can’t be built out. Matakana is a seven-minute drive away and Craig and Cherie are big fans of the shops, cafes and other eateries there.

He’s taking time out from the corporate world and the couple are preparing to relocate to Christchurch to be close to family. “We have a nice piece of land there to build on.”

Victoria Turner from Bayleys, Omaha Beach says that 8 Kotare Place is a special home, and not only because of the views. She is marketing the property with colleague Dahnie Burton.

“Craig and Cherie have done a spectacular job with their renovation and quality coastal properties like this one don’t hang around for long,” she says.

“Houses on the ridgeline are especially tightly-held so if somebody wants to take advantage of this rare opportunity they need to act now.”

Turner says that lots of interest is coming from Aucklanders wanting to escape the big smoke and move into a dream home where everything has been done for them.

8 Kotare Place in Brick Bay, Sandspit, Rodney will be sold via tender, closing April 12.
