Here’s a unique opportunity to join one of New Zealand’s oldest and most successful franchise systems — Para Rubber, which has been franchising since the 1980s.

“Para Rubber has positioned itself as New Zealand’s leading specialist stockist of rubber and foam for domestic, commercial, and automotive applications, as well as the iconic Para Pool above-ground swimming pools,” says director Vaughan Moss.

Para Rubber currently has 10 stores across New Zealand, all owned and managed by local franchisees.

It is now looking to establish new franchise locations in Hawke’s Bay, Dunedin and South Auckland and has engaged Link Ellerslie business broker Dawn Engelbrecht, a specialist in franchising, to assist with the process.

Para Rubber offers a diverse range of products from rubber, hardware, foam, mattresses, mats, pools and accessories, and household products at consistently competitive prices, with an ethos of providing high-quality retail service to its customers.

Para Rubber franchisees have access to the benefits of group buying power as well as major commercial customers supported by the group.

The company runs national marketing campaigns that all franchisees contribute to and benefit from.

The majority of franchisees have no prior business experience and come from varied backgrounds, but are passionate about retail and enjoy helping others.

New franchisees are provided with extensive training as part of their franchise agreement.

It is expected that an owner-operator would be working in their franchise for a minimum 30 hours a week and will need to employ staff to work alongside them in the store to cover trading hours and provide the quality service Para Rubber is renowned for.

“Para Rubber’s franchise system is a partnership built on open and honest communication. With bespoke software tools to make your life easier, Para Rubber franchisees have an independently owned and operated business while taking advantage of the strong market presence of a larger brand,” says Engelbrecht.

Para Rubber offers the country’s only online foam custom cutting service as well as carrying the widest range of foams from inexpensive packaging foams to open-pore foams used for outdoor furniture.

Store footprints vary between location and franchisees are assisted to secure appropriate premises.

Franchisees experience a return-to-working owner of anywhere from $80-400,000 a year.

With a variety of product lines from foam to rubber to swimming pools, Para Rubber stores really do have something for everyone, Moss says. “The stores have not experienced any significant negative impact from Covid-19 and have benefited from the increased spend on home improvements and DIY projects that have resulted from the lockdowns.”

Para Rubber franchises sell for $180,000 which includes the initial store fitout and opening stock.

With only three geographic locations on offer as part of the 2021-22 expansion, Engelbrecht says this really is an opportunity to join one of New Zealand’s top brands.
