When asking Jacquie what she first loved about her property at 2/26 Tizard Road, Birkenhead Point, she declared emphatically, “The view!”

You can’t blame her. The outlook from her clifftop home is something else, taking in immediate city and harbour views, the neighbouring Chelsea Sugar factory, and west to the Waitakere Ranges.

“There’s a lot of time wasted looking out the window, a lot goes on out there,” she says.

“From the odd dolphin and orca, the sugar boats, the windsurfers and yachts. We get a beautiful orange sunrise against the city in the morning, it’s marvellous.”

A backdrop of blue sea, city and landscape views is preceded by her home’s crisp white walls, expansive decks and liberal spaces, creating a relaxed suburban coastal home – one, Jacquie says, her and her husband Richard will find hard to leave.

A contemporary white kitchen offers a seamless workspace and modern appliances and joins the larger living area which opens out onto its generous west facing first floor deck, where Jacquie says the entertaining takes place and summer nights are spent.

“Since we added the decking, it gave the home this incredible indoor/outdoor flow. Autumns are for breakfast on the deck, and in the summer, we’re having BBQs every night out there.

“The house just flows, we’ve had many parties here, the home makes it very easy to entertain,” Jacquie says.

The light-filled master bedroom is separated on the main floor from the remaining bedrooms downstairs.

A potential fifth bedroom which is currently being used as an office opens out onto its own deck.

The lower level presents superb opportunity for guests and older children, with a bedroom and kitchenette, which can be completely shut off, along with a further two bedrooms and bathroom, all currently set up as an Airbnb.

“We can have visitors at the drop of a hat, they’ve got their own space downstairs, it has worked extremely well,” says Jacquie.

Bayleys agent Victoria Bidwell, who is marketing the property with Charles Bidwell, says, “This home is beautifully presented. The property has sweeping views right across from the city to the ranges in the West. Birkenhead Point is such a desirable area, and Tizard Road is fantastic.

“It’s an easy walk to the restaurants and the shops, and the new pathway at the end of the street which leads directly to the ferry is a real bonus.”

Jacquie adds, “We’ll often take the jet ski down to Birkenhead jetty and shoot over to Riverhead for some lunch. The bushwalks around Birkenhead are great too, especially for dogs.”

Birkenhead Point has proven a popular suburb with broad appeal, and for good reason. Its proximity to the city, coastal location and expanding number of restaurants, retail and amenities, have cemented its popularity for a far-reaching market.
