The Colliers Office Leasing team has announced two key appointments as it looks to continue its growth following a record year in 2022.

Sam Gallaugher will lead the Auckland Office Leasing team of 11 brokers and support staff, while Mike van der Putten has been promoted to lead the city fringe leasing team.

Both are experienced property professionals that have been involved in a range of high-profile deals across Auckland during the past decade, working with international and nationally renowned occupiers.

The Colliers Office Leasing team was named Team of the Year at Colliers’ annual awards in March, reflecting an outstanding year in 2022 that included brokering Beca’s impending move to a new development in Wynyard Quarter.

That momentum has continued into 2023 with Colliers assisting Spark with their upcoming move to Fifty Albert in the heart of Auckland’s CBD, set to take place in 2025.

With 13 years’ experience in the Auckland commercial property market, van der Putten is skilled in medium to large-scale tenant relocations, retentions, and strategic landlord representation.

Last year, he brokered a major lease agreement for KiwiRail’s under-construction Rail Management Offices in Central Park in Ellerslie, which marked a record initial commercial lease term of 25 years, as well brokering the deal for the Hato Hone St John ambulance service’s new head office in Greenlane.

“I’m passionate about Colliers’ fringe leasing team and am committed to driving the team towards our collective goal, which is to continue to increase momentum and to deliver exceptional results for our clients,” van der Putten says.

“There is a huge amount of activity across key city fringe locations such as Newmarket, Parnell, Ellerslie, and Greenlane, so it is an exciting time in the leasing space to assist businesses searching for the right premises to encourage productivity and provide an attractive environment for their staff.”

Gallaugher, who played a significant role in brokering Spark’s move to Fifty Albert, has more than 20 years’ experience in the commercial property sector and has specialist knowledge in acting for both tenants and landlords.

“It is a huge privilege to be able to lead such a talented team of experts that have a vast depth of knowledge and experience,” Gallaugher says.

“We have an intricate understanding of the Auckland leasing market and are in-tune with the demands of the modern workplace, which allows us to create solutions that meet the needs of all parties.”

Charles Cooper, Auckland Managing Director at Colliers, says these strategic appointments reflect Colliers’ drive for future growth.

“Sam and Mike are clear market leaders with an outstanding track record of elevating the success of their clients and producing exemplary results,” Cooper says.

“Their knowledge of their respective markets is what sets them apart and that is underpinned by their dedication and professionalism.

“I congratulate them both on their appointments and look forward to seeing what they will achieve as the Office Leasing team continues to grow.”
